Steve Cutler was released by WWE last night after seven years with the company.

According to a report from Fightful Select, Cutler's release stemmed from him having COVID-19 in early January. The Superstar had recently returned to WWE TV as one of King Corbin's Knights of The Lone Wolf but he and Wesley Blake stopped appearing on SmackDown following the positive test. Cutler subsequently garnered heat with Vince McMahon and was let go by the company.

More details on Cutler's release have since been reported by Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Cutler reportedly contracted coronavirus after attending a New Year's Eve party and Vince McMahon was "livid" after finding out because the former Forgotten Son had been around all of the wrestlers. McMahon previously promised a few Superstars, including Roman Reigns, they would be in a safe environment when at work.

Meltzer also confirmed Cutler was helping out with the "big man" class at the WWE Performance Center and was actually there on the day of his release.
