Report: NHL-TNT TV Deal Won't Affect AEW

Dynamite will remain on Wednesday nights

A report from the Sports Business Journal noted yesterday that TNT is expected to win the bidding war for the NHL's secondary package and Turner Broadcasting will be home to three of the next seven Stanley Cup Finals. The as-yet-unannounced deal will reportedly cost TNT $225 million per season over the next seven years.

NHL games often air on Wednesday nights, but the new TV deal won't affect AEW: Dynamite according to the Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer

Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that AEW will remain in its current time slot of 8 pm ET on Wednesday nights. NHL games will instead "probably end up" on TBS or on a different night on TNT.

NHL games have aired exclusively on NBCUniversal channels for the last 10 years, but the network pulled out of the bidding war for the new packages yesterday. NBCUniversal was expected to pick up one of the available options and NXT reportedly moved to Tuesday nights partly because NHL games were likely to air on USA Network for the foreseeable future. The second package was ultimately snapped up by TNT, though.
