Good wrestling commentators are always in demand, and it seems Mike Tenay is no exception.

The ‘professor’ of WCW and TNA has been retired since 2016, but a report from Dave Meltzer in The Wrestling Observer Newsletter says several promotions are interested in working with ‘Iron’ Mike:

“The English broadcast team for April 30 [AAA TripleMania] will be Lenny Leonard and Larry Dallas. At least we don’t have to worry about the commentary. Both Dallas and Konnan tried to get Mike Tenay out of retirement to do the big shows this year, but he declined.

“Tenay said that there’s always a chance for him to return, but hasn’t felt it’s the right time or place and is enjoying retirement too much and has no financial concerns. He noted that MLW, GCW and WWE had all contacted him of late as far as possibly announcing for the former two, and to do interviews for documentaries for the latter, but he had turned all of them down.”

Tenay was noted for his in-depth knowledge of the wrestling industry during his run in WCW’s announce booth during the Monday Night Wars, with ‘The Professor’ adept at calling matches between Mexican or Japanese stars who the audience may not have been familiar with at the time, as well as filling in the blanks for broadcast colleagues Tony Schiavone and Bobby Heenan.
