There is currently a push within WWE for Alberto El Patron to be brought back to the company on the main roster.
The former Alberto Del Rio has not wrestled for WWE since 2016, but he is signed to a WWE deal due to his previous status as AAA Mega Champion. WWE have taken measures to avoid showcasing El Patron, though, having booked him to lose the AAA Mega Championship to El Hijo del Vikingo shortly after WWE's planned acquisition of the Lucha Libre promotion was announced. El Patron also lost to El Mesias on July 25 in a match which forced him to leave AAA.
Reports have noted there are no plans for WWE to use the former Del Rio, but this doesn't mean there isn't support for him in the company. Dave Meltzer has reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that people in WWE are pushing for El Patron to be booked on the main roster, with the company said to be impressed with how Del Rio handles himself as a star.
"There's many different people with many different ideas on Alberto with everything from he's gone [from AAA], which I don't expect watching the way they put that thing, to he's going to the main roster, which I don't expect, but there are absolutely people pushing for that…There are people very, very impressed with Alberto as far as the way he handles himself as a star and he's super, super over. He's the biggest star in the company," Meltzer said.
Ernesto Ocampo of Superluchas has also reported there are "many" in WWE who want El Patron to be booked on the main roster, but Ocampo reiterated there are no current plans for El Patron within WWE.
