Report: Reason AEW Booked Andrade El Idolo In Mask Vs. Career Match Revealed

Why did AEW book Andrade in the match?

Andrade El Idolo's future in All Elite Wrestling is currently uncertain following his involvement in a backstage altercation with Sammy Guevara. The AEW talents had a Twitter spat earlier this week and reports have noted that Andrade punched Guevara twice while backstage at Wednesday's Dynamite taping. He was sent home following the incident.

El Idolo's future with the promotion had been speculated on in recent weeks after it emerged that WWE's new regime had reached out to several AEW talents to see if they would be interested in joining the company. Andrade had also teased he was unhappy on social media.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the speculation that Andrade wanted out of AEW prompted the promotion to book him in a Mask vs. Career Match against Dark Order's 10 on the October 7 edition of Rampage, with both AEW and El Idolo wanting to capitalise on the publicity.

Such a big match is usually the blow-off to a long feud but the belief within AEW was that the match had to take place this week because people would quickly move on from the story of Andrade wanting to leave.

The match was ultimately scrapped after Andrade was sent home for punching Guevara. Reports have since noted that El Idolo is trying to get fired by AEW. Andrade even joked that he would lose to Dark Order's 10 on purpose so he could leave the promotion, according to Meltzer.
