Report: Reason Charlotte Flair Won The NXT Women's Championship At WWE WrestleMania 36 Revealed

The Queen will be on NXT TV for some time...

Night two of WrestleMania 36 opened with Charlotte Flair vs. Rhea Ripley for the NXT Women's Championship. The match has been praised as one of the best bouts on the show as The Queen repeatedly worked over Ripley's leg while the champion tried to wear the challenger down with power moves and the Riptide. Ultimately, the 10-time Women's champion showed her experience as she forced Ripley to tap out to the Figure Eight after 20 minutes.

Many fans were shocked by Flair's victory as they expected WWE to give Rhea the rub and establish her as one of the faces of the black and gold brand.

The Wednesday Night Wars ultimately factored into the company's decision as Dave Meltzer revealed on Wrestling Observer Radio that Charlotte won the title because WWE thinks having her on NXT will help them defeat AEW: Dynamite in the ratings.

Meltzer said: "The reason that they’re doing it, obviously, is they want Charlotte Flair on NXT because they want to win Wednesday night and that's the new strategy."
