WWE is heading to Paris, France next week for the Clash In Paris 2025 premium live event on August 31. Prior to that major show, Friday Night SmackDown will be held in Lyon, France - the same area that featured one of WWE’s loudest crowds ever at Backlash 2024. Those making the trip for the blue brand won’t be left short-changed (well, if we ignore ticket prices) as SmackDown will feature some big title matches, as announced last night.
After pinning Solo Sikoa in multiple of the previous weeks, Sami Zayn will receive a shot at the United States Championship to follow up on his official move to SmackDown. Sikoa has had to fend off multiple former Bloodline members during his reign thus far, previously defeating Jimmy Uso and Jacob Fatu in title defences.
Following several weeks of attacks and singles matches, the ‘Secret Hervice’ pairing of Piper Niven and Alba Fyre will be getting a shot at the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships, doing battle with champions Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss next week. On SmackDown last night, Niven defeated Flair in singles action. Multiple title matches were rumoured for Clash In Paris, with Zayn vs. Sikoa being one of them.
Last night’s SmackDown also featured a peculiar ending, as WWE reshot the final segment of the show with it airing differently on the USA Network to how international fans watching live saw it.
