Will Ospreay is scheduled to compete inside a Lights Out Steel Cage at Forbidden Door 2025, teaming with Kenny Omega, Kota Ibushi, Hiroshi Tanahashi and Darby Allin to take on The Young Bucks, Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli & Gabe Kidd. However, Ospreay has revealed neck-related issues, stating that he requires surgery on two herniated discs.
It has been known that these injuries are in fact legitimate and he does really need surgery, raising some question marks about his involvement at Forbidden Door. In an interview with Screen Off Script, Ospreay has attempted to quell any worries about his safety, explaining that “everyone is comfortable with me going into this match.” Ospreay went on to discuss AEW’s medical team and their approach to this scenario in another interview, this time with Sports Illustrated.
“I have a huge medical team around me, and guys that work with AEW. They would not allow me to go into the ring unless, if it was a huge percentage of a risk of me getting hurt. Like, honestly, do you think my wife would let me go in a ring if there’s a high chance of me dying?”
Ospreay will be taking time off from AEW in the aftermath of Forbidden Door, but he won’t be alone as Swerve Strickland is also rumoured to be taking some time away from the ring to recover from a torn meniscus.
