While Ricochet had spent recent months feuding with Sheamus and Ridge Holland alongside Cesaro on Friday Night SmackDown, The One and Only moved on from that rivalry on the February 25 edition of the blue brand following Cesaro's departure from the company.

After Sami Zayn attacked Jackass star Johnny Knoxville, Adam Pearce admonished the Intercontinental Champion backstage. Ricochet then walked up and challenged Zayn to a title match, which Pearce immediately booked for March 4.

Ricochet's renewed push appeared to come out of nowhere but the reason has seemingly been revealed.

According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Ricochet is currently listed as the number two singles babyface on SmackDown, only behind two-time WWE Champion Drew McIntyre. Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Shinsuke Nakamura, who may have been ahead of Ricochet in the pecking order, are currently listed as part of tag teams internally.

Big E and Kofi Kingston recently started to team together again as The New Day while Shinsuke Nakamura teams with Rick Boogs.
