Edge returned to WWE TV on this week's Monday Night Raw and announced his intentions to enter the Men's Royal Rumble.

The Rated-R Superstar appeared in a pre-taped promo and talked about the struggles he has fought through over the last 10 years. He then declared he plans to win the Royal Rumble, main event WrestleMania 37 and take back the world title he never lost when he was forced to retire in 2011.

Royal Rumble has become synonymous with surprise entrants and returns throughout its history and many were wondering why WWE decided to announce Edge's return in advance.

According to Fightful Select, there is a good chance Edge's return would have been kept a surprise if there was a live crowd for the pay-per-view. With no fans in attendance, though, WWE decided to announce the 11-time world champion's return in advance to create buzz for Royal Rumble and to try and entice lapsed fans who will be familiar with him to watch the show.
