All Elite Wrestling Dynamite Grand Slam III saw Rey Fenix win the International Championship from Jon Moxley after Mox suffered a concussion and called an audible to change the planned finish of the bout.

Mox suffered the injury during a senton from Fenix on the outside, with Mox banging the back of his head on the floor. Fenix later won the match with two Fire Thunder Drivers, a move which gained the Death Triangle member heat backstage according to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Meltzer suggests that Fenix caught heat as some believed the drivers caused Mox’s injury, and despite video footage suggesting that Mox may have collided with the mat during the move, it was ‘totally safe’.

Concussions are serious business, but very unpredictable. As such Moxley could be out a matter of weeks, or potentially much longer, with the former AEW World Champion only allowed back into the ring after satisfactorily passing a bunch of concussion protocol tests.

AEW and referee Rick Knox have caught some flack online for allowing the match to continue despite Moxley’s injury, but Meltzer’s report suggests that Fenix, Knox, and the ringside medical staff weren’t aware of Moxley’s injury at the time, due to the fact that he wasn’t knocked out as a result and continued to wrestle.
