Report: Rey Mysterio Staying With WWE, Turned Down AEW Offer

He'll be getting his eyesight back...

In early July, it emerged that Rey Mysterio's WWE contract had expired as both sides had been unable to agree on a new deal. The Master Of The 619 reportedly wanted a pay rise, but Vince McMahon was unwilling to meet his demands because of the releases back on April 15.

Both parties have continued negotiations over the past month and reports in recent weeks noted both parties weren't too apart on agreeing to a new deal.

Dave Meltzer provided an update on the negotiations in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter and revealed Mysterio is "staying" with the wrestling behemoth. The former World Heavyweight Champion's new contract is also "considerably longer" than his previous 18-month deal, but isn't upwards of five years.

Meltzer noted AEW tried to sign Mysterio after his contract expired, and they even matched WWE's per-match offer. The young promotion's deal wasn't good enough to convince Mysterio to leave his current employers, however, as the new contract with WWE was for more dates and, therefore, more money overall.
