Report: Sami Zayn Angle Prompted WWE To Book Cody Rhodes-Paul Heyman Segment On WWE Raw

WWE held a segment that will be remembered for some time on the February 6 edition of Monday Night Raw as Paul Heyman and Cody Rhodes came face-to-face ahead of The American Nightmare's Undisputed WWE Universal Title match with Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39. 

After a back-and-forth between Heyman and Rhodes, the segment peaked when the former ECW owner told Cody that while he was Dusty Rhodes' favourite son, Roman Reigns was the son Dusty always wanted. The comment drew an audible gasp from the fans in attendance and prompted an angry Cody Rhodes to tell Heyman that his match with "your boy" Roman Reigns was now personal and he planned to win the world title at WrestleMania 39. 

The match is still a couple of months away and Roman Reigns actually has to defend the Undisputed WWE Universal Title against Sami Zayn at Elimination Chamber before he can face Cody. 

The feud between Reigns and Zayn is arguably the biggest in pro wrestling at the moment and that is the reason WWE decided to book the segment between Heyman and Rhodes on Raw, according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer. 

"This was done because they were well aware of how hot the Sami Zayn thing is and it was imperative to not have this WrestleMania main event angle feel secondary. So they knew going in that they had to do something. And they did," Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio. 

Many fans believe Zayn should be inserted into the main event of WrestleMania 39 but recent reports have noted that Chief Content Officer Triple H doesn't view the former Honorary Uce as a WrestleMania headliner.
