Report: Sami Zayn Wins Over Internal Doubters About His Second WWE Title Reign

Internal opinion around Sami Zayn's Undisputed WWE Title reign has changed because of Zayn's work on WWE programming.

WRKD Wrestling has reported that Sami Zayn "has won over doubters backstage with his performance over the past few weeks that originally felt he wasn’t worthy of a second world title run."

Zayn regained the WWE Championship on the September 11 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, defeating CM Punk for the belt. Reports following the title switch noted there was some internal opposition to Zayn winning back the belt, with one of the reasons for his victory being that the company wanted to book Sami Zayn vs. Roman Reigns in a champion vs. champion match at Crown Jewel.

Sami Zayn has had a whole host of wrestlers pursuing the WWE Title during his second reign as champion, including CM Punk, Kevin Owens, Gunther, Trick Williams, and Johnny Gargano. On the October 30 episode of SmackDown, Zayn successfully defended the title for a third time, this time against Trick Williams.

Sami Zayn became a world champion in WWE for the first time earlier this year, winning the WWE Championship from Cody Rhodes in a Triple Threat that also included Gunther at Night of Champions. Zayn dropped the belt to CM Punk on the July 6 episode of Monday Night Raw.
