Report: Santana Sidelined With ACL Injury

The injury was sustained during Blood and Guts

AEW star Santana suffered an apparent knee injury during the six-on-six Blood and Guts steel cage match more than two weeks ago, and a new report from Fightful Select sheds light on the nature of the injury.

According to Fightful's report, AEW sources have indicated that Santana sustained an ACL injury, based on what Santana has reportedly said to others.

The injury occurred shortly after Santana entered into the match, while attempting a uranage on Daniel Garcia. Santana's leg bent awkwardly while doing the move, and he visibly clutched his left knee afterward. For most of the remainder of the match, Santana lay on the apron away from the action.

AEW sources are expecting Santana to miss eight to 12 months of action.

Santana hasn't publicly confirmed the nature of the injury, but tweeted Sunday, "I'll speak soon".

As far as Ortiz is concerned, the report adds, "... there are no plans to stop using Ortiz that anyone in AEW has heard about." Recent stories have indicated that Santana and Ortiz haven't been on the best terms, and they haven't competed in two-on-two action for some time. Santana had also been working singles bouts away from AEW before getting hurt.
