Report: Shane McMahon Wanted WWE Men's Royal Rumble Finish To Be About Him

A finish around Shane McMahon

While much has already been written about Shane McMahon's departure from WWE, particularly his confrontational attitude backstage and his producing of the 2022 Men's Royal Rumble, further details have emerged about how the 52-year-old wished to book himself in a prime spot.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that Shane wanted to build the end of the Men's Rumble around himself, as well as book himself as a "featured player." These ideas were ultimately shot down by Vince McMahon which left Shane visibly unhappy backstage and he talked down to people.

Shane also had disagreements with Brock Lesnar over the closing portion of the Rumble but Meltzer noted "Lesnar pretty much does exactly what he wants."

This led to confusion backstage, though, as talent were told one thing and then something else between Shane's plans for the Rumble and what Vince McMahon and Lesnar wanted to happen after the WWE Chairman would overrule his son.

The only spot left in for Shane was him outstriking former UFC fighter Riddle. McMahon then didn't help himself after he botched going over the top rope when Lesnar tried to eliminate him.

Shane was ultimately "out" of WWE by Wednesday this week and a source noted to Meltzer that such was the 52-year-old's behaviour that Vince McMahon was left with no choice.
