Strickland is soon to be All Elite
Feb 23, 2022
Following initial reports that he was expected to sign with the promotion, All Elite Wrestling have seemingly landed their man.
According to Fightful Select, AEW are signing Shane "Swerve" Strickland. Many within the promotion have been working on the assumption that Strickland was signing and the deal is set to begin in the first week of March.
Talk suggests AEW view Strickland as a possible crossover star too. The promotion currently works with WarnerMedia on other projects like the Rhodes To The Top reality series, although the show's future is unclear following Brandi and Cody Rhodes' exits from the promotion.
AEW had a longstanding interest in Strickland and they inquired about his status soon after he was let go by WWE. Strickland himself said recently that he would be interested in joining AEW.
Since being released by WWE in November of 2021, Strickland has performed for New Japan Pro-Wrestling, although Fightful noted the former NXT North American Champion does not have a contract with the Japanese promotion.
Ring Of Honor were also said to be interested in using Strickland once the company returns from its self-imposed hiatus but he is unlikely to appear in ROH now.
