Report: Shawn Michaels Unlikely To Have An Outside Talent Win The WWE NXT Title
No WWE NXT Title reign for Joe Hendry and co. it seems
Jun 19, 2024
As expected, the crossover between WWE NXT and TNA Wrestling continued on the June 18 episode of NXT. A Battle Royal opened the show to determine who would challenge Trick Williams for the NXT Championship at Heatwave and the match opened with TNA's Joe Hendry, who was promptly eliminated by his TNA colleague Frankie Kazarian. The two men are currently feuding on TNA TV and Kazarian defeated Hendry at last week's Against All Odds special.
Kazarian ultimately made it to the final four in the Battle Royal before he was eliminated, with Je'Von Evans going on to win the match.
The crossover between WWE NXT and TNA is expected to continue, with talent in WWE under the impression the current situation between the two promotions is "far from over." A TNA talent is seemingly unlikely to win the NXT Championship, however, with a source in the WWE brand telling Fightful Select's Corey Brennan that they think Shawn Michaels, based on recent booking, "would make anyone a number one contender, not a champion." This came after they were asked if Michaels would put the NXT Title on an outside talent.
TNA wrestlers have already challenged for titles in NXT, with Jordynne Grace facing Roxanne Perez for the NXT Women's Championship at Battleground. NXT's Tatum Paxley then challenged Grace for the TNA Knockouts World Title at Against All Odds.
