Report: Steve Austin Was Approached For Match With Roman Reigns

Stone Cold vs. The Tribal Chief?

A new report from Fightful Select claims that a match with current WWE Universal champion Roman Reigns was internally pitched for Stone Cold Steve Austin.

The report goes on to say that Austin's representatives were approached regarding the possibility, which was said to have been for "enormous" money.

One source indicated that another "big name" was pitched to Austin in prior months, but it's not clear who that was.

As of early December, a report from WrestlingNews.co claimed that preliminary plans for WrestleMania 39 had Seth Rollins facing either Drew McIntyre or Cody Rhodes one night, and Reigns facing either Rhodes or another unspecified individual on the other night. It's not clear if those plans have changed.

At WrestleMania 38 last April, Austin wrestled his first match in 19 years, defeating Kevin Owens in an impromptu bout that closed out the first night. He also had an in-ring confrontation with Vince McMahon and Pat McAfee on the second night.

Austin retired after WrestleMania 19 in Seattle in 2003 at age 38, following a loss to The Rock.
