Report: Talent Believe Buddy Matthews Is Joining AEW
Could the former Buddy Murphy become ‘All Elite’?
Since his WWE release in June 2021 there have been several sightings of Buddy Matthews (fka Murphy) with the former WWE Cruiserweight Champion having wrestled dates for the likes of MLW, PWG, and NJPW, but not signing exclusively with any company.
Now, reports have emerged suggesting that Matthews could be joining AEW, with Fightful Select reporting that some AEW talent believe he’s coming in, with sources suggesting creative pitches have been made, whilst others suggested that creative plans have already been decided.
Speculation is certainly only going to increase after the February 16 edition of Dynamite, where a Malakai Black vignette aired suggesting someone new is coming to join ‘The House of Black’. In the video, Black and Brody King are sat at a table with Black drawing tarot cards, with King asking who they are waiting for, with Black saying “history” as a shadowy figure briefly appears in the background.
With Black not afraid to draw on his past storylines from WWE then this certainly suggests that the figure in question could be Matthews, with the two having feuded extensively on WWE’s main roster, with Murphy the one who damaged Black’s 'corrupted' eye in the first place.
