Report: Update On Carlito's WWE Status

Why didn't Carlito make his WWE return last week?

A new report has shed some light on the WWE status of Carlito, after it was previously reported that the company were targeting the week of July 7 for his return to television.

PWInsider noted that while the former Intercontinental Champion was not backstage at this past Friday's SmackDown taping in Madison Square Garden, he did travel to the Northeast for the company that weekend.

It added that a long-time subscriber claimed to have spotted Carlito waiting for a flight from Pittsburgh on Sunday. Pittsburgh is where WWE's medical programme is headquartered.

A WWE source told the site that Carlito's return on last week's SmackDown would have been "lost' in the wake of The Bloodline's segments and that it was for the best that he didn't make his return on that show.

The 44-year-old inked a deal to return to WWE following his surprise return during the Bad Bunny versus Damian Priest back at Backlash. Carlito wrestled for WWE full-time between 2004 and 2010.

He made a previous surprise appearance as an entrant in the 2021 Royal Rumble and then wrestled a tag team match on the post-Rumble episode of Raw.
