Report: Update On John Cena's WWE Status Following Money In The Bank Return

John Cena’s WWE status following Money in the Bank return revealed

John Cena made a surprise appearance at WWE Money in the Bank on July 1, with the multi-time world champion cutting an impassioned promo before tangling with Grayson Waller.

It seems for now that Cena’s MITB appearance was just a one-off, with Fightful Select reporting that Cena was only set for Money in the Bank and doesn’t have any further appearances planned, although this can always change if Cena’s schedule clears up.

Cena’s MITB appearance was his first WWE showing since his defeat to Austin Theory on WrestleMania 39 Night One in April, and his segment at the London show was a closely guarded secret, with ‘almost no-one knowing’ that Cena was in the building.

Like many others before him, Cena is highly active in Hollywood, and has been in the UK filming action movie Heads of State with Idris Elba for Amazon Studios. In WWE, Cena is tied with Ric Flair on 16 recognised world championship reigns, and it has been expected for many years that WWE will pull the trigger on having Cena break ‘The Nature Boy’s disputed record.
