Report: Update On Kairi Sane's WWE Status

A non-wrestling role could have been on the horizon...

Back on the June 1 episode of Monday Night Raw, Kairi Sane suffered a deep cut to her head after being tossed into the steel steps by Nia Jax. The Pirate Princess has been noticeably absent from WWE TV since the incident and when she will return remains unclear.

Fightful Select reported last night that Sane's status within the company was "pretty complicated" as of early June. Even before she suffered the injury, WWE planned to send her to Japan to serve as an ambassador for the company.

Fightful noted they asked if the role was part of Triple H's 'global localisation' initiative but were told any plans to expand into Japan were on hold because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. WWE tried to purchase Pro Wrestling NOAH and Dragon Gate last year to use the promotions as a platform to launch NXT Japan, but both companies rejected the wrestling behemoth's advances.

Sane's in-ring future also remains unclear but the report did note many within WWE want her to continue wrestling, even if she does eventually take up an ambassadorial role with the company.
