Report: Update On Original Planned Winner Of WWE Men's Royal Rumble

Who was booked to win?

Conflicting reports have emerged about who was originally scheduled to win the Men's Royal Rumble.

A report from Mike Johnson of PWInsider on Monday noted the original plan would have seen Riddle end the 30-man match as the winner, but plans were changed "a ton of times" ahead of the pay-per-view and WWE ultimately decided to have Brock Lesnar win the Rumble.

According to Fightful Select, though, top talent and longtime names within WWE have said Riddle being the original planned winner of the Rumble isn't true. Instead, multiple individuals heard Lesnar had been booked to win the match at least two weeks before January 29.

People close to Riddle also noted WWE never told him he would be winning in St. Louis.

Furthermore, an alternative winner to Lesnar was discussed, according to Fightful, but that talent was Riddle.

While if Riddle was pencilled in to win the Rumble remains unclear, Brock Lesnar ultimately ended the Men's 30-man elimination match as the victor and he will face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 38
