Jade Cargill is set to defend the TBS Championship against a surprise Canadian opponent in an open challenge on the March 15 edition of AEW Dynamite from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Taya Valkyrie is currently the favourite after it emerged that she had finished up with IMPACT Wrestling and was likely going to sign with All Elite Wrestling or WWE. Fightful Select have provided an update on several Canadian wrestlers who could conceivably challenge Jade Cargill for the TBS Title on Wednesday.

Adding to the Taya Valkyrie situation, Fightful Select noted she is committed to dates with Major League Wrestling through April but she is not under contract and is able to "wrestle wherever she wants." Valkyrie's fellow Death Dollz faction-mate Rosemary is another name that has been speculated on but she remains under contract with IMPACT Wrestling. She is able to take outside bookings but it is unlikely that arrangement would include AEW without proper clearance.

The Bunny is also from Canada but she has not wrestled since sustaining an injury on the February 8 edition of Dynamite in a match with Jamie Hayter. As of last word, The Bunny was set to undergo medical testing.

In regards to independent talents who could answer the open challenge, Fightful Select noted that Jody Threat remains a free agent, while Nicole Matthews is still based out of Vancouver.

Indie Wrestling Hall of Famer LuFisto was interested in joining AEW and both parties held informal talks about a coaching role but follow-up negotiations never took place. As of Thursday, March 9, LuFisto was not scheduled to be the opponent. She previously wrestled in a six-woman tag team match on an April 2022 episode of Dark: Elevation.
