Report: Update On Potential WWE Talent Releases

WWE releases don't appear to be planned

While there had been rumours earlier this year that WWE releases were planned, those rumours appear to have been unfounded.

Fightful Select noted they have spoken to numerous WWE talents and staff over the past week and they have claimed they "hadn't heard anything about rumored cuts to talent throughout this year that was circulated by shoddy sources." Discussion of rumoured releases also didn't penetrate backstage discourse, with it being noted potential roster cuts weren't widely discussed.

WWE held several rounds of mass releases during the COVID-19 pandemic but the organisation hasn't released a great number of main roster talents since late 2021. Instead, the company brought back several wrestlers in 2022 after Triple H was appointed WWE Chief Content Officer, although there has been a dearth of signings in 2023 due to an unofficial hiring freeze that has seen WWE not follow through on interest in the likes of Jay White, Tama Tonga, and Trinity. Brian Pillman Jr. looks set to be WWE's first major signing of the year, though.

While talent releases might not be on the way, cuts are on the horizon when the WWE-UFC merger is completed in mid to late September.
