A Vince McMahon edict has potentially been scrapped.

Johnny Gargano returned to WWE on Monday Night Raw, making his first appearance in the company since December of 2021. The former NXT Champion was involved in a segment with his former protege Theory and Gargano ended up decking Mr Money In The Bank with a Superkick.

Interestingly, Gargano did not have to undergo a name change when he made his way to the main roster like so many WWE talents before him. This has led many within WWE to believe that Vince McMahon's edict which prevented talents from using their real names and past independent wrestling names has been scrapped, PWInsider reported.

The edict has affected several wrestlers this year already, including WALTER, Marcel Barthel, and Pete Dunne, who were renamed Gunther, Ludwig Kaiser, and Butch. WWE has undergone major changes in the past month, though, with Triple H, Stephanie McMahon and Nick Khan now heading up the company following Vince McMahon's resignation as WWE CEO and Chairman.
