Report: Vince McMahon Originally Planned To Be At WWE Backlash

Vince McMahon was going to be in Puerto Rico for WWE Backlash

Vince McMahon wasn't planning to remotely oversee creative for the Backlash pay-per-view.

According to former Ultimate Pro Wrestling promoter Rick Bassman, who maintains a close relationship with WWE, Vince McMahon originally planned to be in San Juan, Puerto Rico for Backlash on May 6 but he didn't end up travelling for the show.

"No, he wasn't there. But I got a really nice email from him Saturday morning saying, 'Hey, I'm not going to make it. But let's, you know, I'll talk to the guys after the meeting. And we'll continue on from there.' I did wind up meeting with the top guys in the company after events. But he was initially scheduled to be part of that, yes," Bassman told Haus of Wrestling.

McMahon has not been backstage at a WWE show since he was present at the Raw after WrestleMania 39. That event saw the WWE Executive Chairman re-establish himself as the head of creative and he has overseen the company's plans for programming ever since. McMahon has largely only made minor changes to creative plans but he has made major last-minute changes on a couple of occasions.
