Report: Why AEW Didn't Tape Matches On Chris Jericho's Cruise

It ultimately wasn't worth it

Chris Jericho's third cruise set sail from October 21 until October 25, but unlike Part Deux, All Elite Wrestling did not tape matches on the boat.

AEW taped several matches on Jericho's last cruise, including the January 22, 2020, edition of Dynamite which saw Kenny Omega and "Hangman" Adam Page defeat SCU to win the AEW World Tag Team Championship.

This time around, though, AEW taped Dynamite from the Addition Financial Arena in Orlando, Florida with most of their roster while some wrestlers missed TV on October 23 to be on the cruise.

The expense of taping the show on the cruise ultimately wasn't worth it, according to Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer.

"The rating was average. I thought you know, with this cool look and everything it will do well, but it did not. It got the same average rating. It is difficult, if you tape ahead the results do get out. Going live, from what I was told, going live is very expensive. I can see why. They didn't tape anything from there, not even Dark, not anything like that," Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio.

Jericho will hold his next cruise 'Four Leaf Clover' from March 14 to March 18, 2022.
