At The Horror Show at Extreme Rules, Apollo Crews was scheduled to defend the United States Championship against MVP. The One Man Nation hasn't appeared on Monday Night Raw since June 29, however, when he was defeated by Porter and then injured by Bobby Lashley.

During Crews's absence, MVP unveiled the redesigned United States Championship and declared himself the new champion. Crews was looking for revenge at last night's pay-per-view, but before the match, Tom Phillips announced the US Champion failed to pass his physical earlier in the day and was medically disqualified from in-ring action. Porter then sauntered to the ring, declared himself the new United States Champion once again by way of forfeit, and left with the new title belt.

Why Crews missed the pay-per-view was unknown, but Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that Apollo's absence was related to COVID-19. Meltzer did not note if Crews had tested positive for the virus, however.

Meltzer said: "Apollo Crews was COVID. People were suspecting it and it was."
