Report: Why Damian Priest's WWE Main Roster Call-Up Was Postponed Revealed

He was scheduled to wrestle on last week's SmackDown...

WrestleVotes recently reported that an NXT Superstar was scheduled to debut in the main event segment on last week's SmackDown and join the Kevin Owens-Roman Reigns storyline. The plan was obviously scrapped, however, as no debut took place.

WrestleVotes tweeted: "Just heard an interesting story... NXT talent was slated to be called up to SmackDown last week, as of showtime, was written into the main event segment w/ Reigns, Uso & KO. Said talent is on tonight's big NXT card so curious to see if it was pushed a week or scrapped altogether."

Dave Meltzer has since confirmed on Wrestling Observer Radio that the NXT Superstar in question was Damian Priest. WWE reportedly decided on Thursday to bring The Archer Of Infamy to SmackDown and he was scheduled to debut as Kevin Owens' best friend. KO didn't think Priest as his best friend was believable, though, and the plan was scrapped.

As of yesterday, Priest is scheduled to debut on Raw later this month but Meltzer believes plans could change again.

Meltzer said: "Somebody was asked who can be the next new babyface in NXT that can come on to the main roster and the guy was Damian Priest. So, they had a story where it was supposed to be Damian Priest was Kevin Owens' best friend and he's helping him against Roman Reigns and Jey Uso. And in fact, they were going to do a tag match on the show Friday night.

"And Damian Priest is there and ready and all that and Kevin Owens essentially said like, 'It makes no sense for him to be my best friend. I mean, what do we have in common? Why would he be my best friend? I mean, we could do it but why is he my best friend?' So, Roman Reigns agreed and since it's Roman Reigns, it was nixed...

"And Damian Priest is lost because he is going to the main roster – a main roster. As of this morning, it was later this month on Raw. But you know, when I heard that it's like, 'Yeah, right. Whatever.'... Anyway, he was supposed to start on Friday but this was not a long planned-out thing... This was actually something that was decided like Thursday before Friday and then they decided not to do it."
