The reason for Liv Morgan's inclusion in the WWE Queen of the Ring tournament despite her being Women's World Champion is simply to give the 31-year-old something to do amidst Stephanie Vaquer's absence.

That is according to Ibou on Self Made Sessions, who reported:

"I asked about the Liv Morgan thing and basically the mentality is what they've planned out with her involves Stephanie Vaquer and she's not ready yet. And so when she's ready they will resume. My immediate retort was so why not just come up with something else in the in between time, but that's just not how they operate for whatever f*cking reason. Basically, they're gonna just do the next step with Stephanie. Stephanie's hurt so Liv is just gonna exist in the meantime."

Stephanie Vaquer and Liv Morgan have been in a programme over the Women's World Championship since Morgan's Royal Rumble win in January. Morgan defeated Vaquer for the Women's World Title at WrestleMania 42 in a match that was reportedly kept short due to both women dealing with injuries heading into the contest. Vaquer was then written out of WWE programming on the April 27 edition of Raw in a backstage attack from Judgment Day, with it being announced by WWE that Vaquer was on the shelf with a grade two AC sprain. There were rumours that Vaquer was expected to be back in the mix around Clash in Italy but that pay-per-view came and went without Vaquer's return.

The 2026 Queen of the Ring tournament is set to conclude at Night of Champions, along with the King of the Ring tournament. Morgan provided a storyline explanation for her inclusion in Queen of the Ring following Clash in Italy, tweeting:

"Gladly! Ahem….I, THE Liv Morgan, am a 3x world champion, 4x tag team champion, inaugural crown jewel champion, MITB winner, rumble winner, & I have no challengers for my WWC because everyone is too scared to challenge me. Also, I have the most dominant faction in all of WWE watching my back so I totally get it. These girls are [cat emojis] but they're not dumb. So me being the hard working go getter that I am, have decided to enter and win the QOTR tournament because I am better than everyone else and I want it ALL. Do u understand now?"

Since winning the Women's World Championship, Liv Morgan has not defended the title and she has only had one match, defeating Sol Ruca on the Raw after WrestleMania 42.
