Report: Why MJF Is Frustrated With His AEW Contract Revealed

A frustrated MJF

MJF and AEW President Tony Khan had a "heated discussion" over the weekend, with it being noted that MJF is frustrated with his AEW contract, while Khan had an issue because Friedman organised an interview with Ariel Helwani without notifying AEW's PR team first, which is standard protocol within the promotion.

Both men have since had a follow-up chat on Monday which reportedly went "much smoother."

MJF remains frustrated with his AEW contract status, though, and Sean Ross Sapp noted on the Fightful Select Backstage Report Podcast that Friedman wants to be paid more, especially since AEW have signed a lot of talent who are earning more than him.

"I know MJF is frustrated about his contract. Wants to be paid more and that's just the long and short of it. There are a lot of people who have come in after him that are getting paid way more and MJF has still probably got two years on that deal and knows his worth, and I don't think there's been much budging on the AEW side of things," Sean Ross Sapp said.

MJF signed with AEW back in 2019 and was a part of the promotion's inaugural event, Double Or Nothing. He has established himself as one of the company's top stars since then and is under contract until 2024.
