WWE held a special throwback edition of Friday Night SmackDown last week and retro graphics and details were used throughout the broadcast.

A skit of Pat McAfee parodying Vince McMahon was also put out ahead of the show and the SmackDown commentator later revealed the cosplay was supposed to feature more during the broadcast, but the idea was scrapped ahead of air time. McAfee even shaved following encouragement from Michael Cole and he is currently struggling to grow back the facial hair.

According to Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer, McMahon scrapped the segments from the show because the boss didn't think McAfee looked or sounded like a younger version of himself. Instead, he thought the skits were stupid and comical in a bad way and deemed McAfee's efforts to be a "parody of a parody."

While he may not have parodied the WWE Chairman on TV, McAfee did sport a retro WWE suit on the show while Michael Cole wore one of his old denim WWE shirts which were common in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
