Report: Why Samoa Joe Was Written Off AEW Television

Joe could be absent for several months.

Samoa Joe clashed with Chris Jericho in a Stampede Street Fight on last night's episode of AEW Dynamite. The match ended with Jericho winning by doctor's stoppage after he (with help from Big Bill) placed Joe on the pallet jack of a forklift and drove him through a wall.

According to PWInsider, this was AEW's way of writing Joe off television, as The Samoan Submission Machine will be returning to film the second season of Peacock series Twisted Metal, which begins filming later this month in Toronto.

Joe played the villainous clown Sweet Tooth in the series, with the voice of the character being provided by actor Will Arnett.

PWInsider were told by those within the entertainment industry that filming of season two of Twisted Metal is set to last at least through October. However, there may be gaps in filming between certain episodes which could potentially allow Joe to pop back up on AEW TV.

PWInsider's report also revealed that WWE's Omos, Cedric Alexander and Apollo Crews auditioned for the role of a new character named Axel, but that production is going ahead without any WWE performer being cast in it.

In March, Joe noted that the backstage morale in AEW was at an all-time high.
