Report: William Regal's WWE Return Discussed In NXT For Months

William Regal's WWE return won't be a shock in NXT

William Regal's exit from All Elite Wrestling and return to WWE has been a fast-developing story since the Full Gear pay-per-view on November 19 but Regal's sudden departure seemingly won't come as a shock to anybody around WWE NXT.

According to Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer, talk of Regal's return has been "going around" NXT for months.

"This is a story that goes back in NXT months, and months ago. They believed that story whenever it first happened. Some don't believe it, but it's a story that's been going around NXT for months," Alvarez said on Wrestling Observer Live.

Regal previously spent 22 years in WWE, first as an in-ring talent and then in a backstage role as part of developmental. He was also the on-screen general manager of NXT until the 2.0 rebrand in September 2021.

The Gentleman Villain was fired in January 2022 and he debuted in AEW two months later, forming the Blackpool Combat Club with Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley. The group has since expanded to include Wheeler Yuta and Claudio Castagnoli. Regal was written out of the company last week with an attack from MJF.
