Report: WWE "Definitely" Would Have Bought ROH Had Triple H Still Been Active

What could have happened

While Tony Khan announced he had purchased Ring Of Honor on Wednesday, the then-Sinclair-owned promotion actually held talks with WWE about a possible acquisition.

Talks between WWE and ROH reportedly took place in December of 2021 following the announcement that the promotion would be going on hiatus for Q1 2022 but talks ultimately broke down.

Triple H's lack of involvement in WWE following his cardiac event in September reportedly influenced a possible deal, Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter

A person with knowledge of WWE's attempt to buy ROH noted to Meltzer that the company "definitely" would have bought Ring Of Honor "had Levesque not gone down" as Triple H would have "pushed" the deal through.

The Game also seemingly had a long-term interest in acquiring ROH as he wanted to buy the company in 2018. WWE and Sinclair even held talks then but a deal couldn't be agreed after Vince McMahon decided he wanted to buy a bigger promotion in New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
