Report: WWE Discussed Bringing Back Authors Of Pain

Could the former Tag Team champions return?

WWE has had discussions about bringing back former Tag Team champions The Authors of Pain, according to a new report from Fightful Select.

In addition to discussing possible returns for Akam and Rezar, WWE has reportedly discussed bringing back their NXT manager, Paul Ellering.

The Authors of Pain debuted as a tag team in June 2016, by attacking American Alpha at NXT TakeOver: The End. The two were managed by Ellering during their NXT tenure, during which they reigned as Tag Team champions for nearly seven months in 2017.

After moving to the main roster after WrestleMania 34, Akam and Rezar briefly held the Raw Tag Team titles, and were henchmen of Seth Rollins. The two last wrestled for WWE in March 2020, and were released by WWE later that year.

Neither man has wrestled anywhere since, but the two did attempt to start up an organization in the UK called Wrestling Entertainment Series (which ended up never running a single show). With Ellering's blessing, Akam and Rezar's post-WWE team name was to have been The Legion of Pain (modeled after The Road Warriors/Legion of Doom, whom Ellering managed for years).
