Report: WWE Limiting New Signings

Could another round of WWE signings be on the way, though?

While there was a swathe of signings in 2022 after Triple H became Chief Content Officer, WWE have hardly signed any talents in 2023, reportedly due to an unofficial hiring freeze that has been in place for much of the year stemming from corporate moves that saw Vince McMahon return to WWE and then sell the company to Endeavor. WWE is set to merge with UFC later this year.

The company has reportedly expressed interest in Nick Aldis and Brian Pillman Jr. in July and reports have claimed that Pillman has either already signed with WWE or is in the process of signing with the company. He is expected to report to the WWE Performance Center by the end of August.

Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that he has been unable to confirm Pillman has signed with WWE, only that WWE are "limiting new signings right now" and will only add talent to the roster in special cases. Within NXT, the belief is there won't be any new signings until the WWE-UFC merger is completed.

There may well be another round of signings once the merger is completed, though, with Meltzer noting that WWE are still scouting wrestlers and they have held talks with talents, telling them they are interested and to wait until after the merger is complete.
