Hiroshi Tanahashi To Make History At IMPACT X NJPW Multiverse United 2

Hiroshi Tanahashi will make history at IMPACT x NJPW Mutliverse United 2

It’s official, Hiroshi Tanahashi will face Alex Shelley for the IMPACT World Championship at IMPACT x NJPW Multiverse United II, with ‘The Ace’ set to make history in the process.

The championship match at Philadelphia’s infamous 2300 Arena will see Tanahashi become the first man in history to challenge for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, AEW World Championship, and IMPACT World Championship in the same calendar year, as confirmed by NJPW English language commentator Chris Charlton on Twitter.

Tanahashi will be hoping he has luck on his side come August 20, as so far in 2023 he has been unable to win singles gold, having lost to then IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada at Battle in the Valley in February, and losing to AEW World Champion MJF at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door II in June. Tanahashi has, however, experienced success in trios action, winning the NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Team Titles with Kazuchika Okada and Tomohiro Ishii.

Confirmed card for IMPACT x NJPW Mutliverse United II - August 20, 2023:

  • Alex Shelley (c) vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi - IMPACT World Championship
  • Lio Rush & Trey Miguel vs. Hiromu Takahashi & Mike Bailey
