Alex Shelley Challenges Hiroshi Tanahashi To IMPACT World Title Match
IMPACT World Champion Alex Shelley wants to face Hiroshi Tanahashi
Alex Shelley is certainly making the most of his first run as IMPACT World Champion, with the Motor City Machine Gun calling out New Japan legend Hiroshi Tanahashi for a singles match.
Shelley wants to put the title on the line against ‘The Ace’ at the upcoming IMPACT x NJPW Multiverse United II event on August 20, saying the following in a video posted to IMPACT’s social channels:
“Tana-san, you were a big sempai to me for years in when I was in New Japan Pro-Wrestling and I looked up to you because you are the Ace. Well, guess what? I'm the joker. Come August 20, world-famous 2300 Arena, go ahead, challenge for this. I'm going to show you why now I'm the best in the world,” said Shelley.
Shelley and Tanahashi have shared a ring many times in the past, both as partners and opponents, but never in singles competition. Should Tanahashi accept Shelley’s challenge then this will be the second time the two will cross paths in an IMPACT/TNA ring, with The Guns defeating the team of Tanahashi and Volador Jr. in October 2008.
