Report: WWE Never Considered Booking Jey Uso To Defeat Roman Reigns At SummerSlam

Jey Uso was never scheduled to become Undisputed WWE Universal Champion

Jey Uso was in the main event of a major WWE show once again at SummerSlam as he challenged Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship in a Tribal Combat Match, only one month after Jey pinned WWE's top star at Money in the Bank.

While WWE were willing to put Jey over at Money in the Bank, the company reportedly never discussed putting the Undisputed WWE Universal Title on Uso at SummerSlam, according to Dave Meltzer.

"I never even heard anyone discuss that as a possibility, I mean, obviously, they've already got whatever it is. They've got plans going for Roman as champion for months down the line, so Jey wasn't going to win. I've got to think Cody is eventually winning it, so it's just a question of keeping him hot enough. Brock did a great job with Cody," Meltzer said during an appearance on McGuire on Wrestling.

Jey Uso ultimately lost to Reigns at SummerSlam after Jimmy Uso turned on his brother. The match and closing angle have so far been criticised but WWE will look to address what happened during the main event in a 'Hail to the Chief' segment on Friday's SmackDown.
