Report: WWE Not Planning To Add Sami Zayn To WrestleMania 39 Main Event

The plan is still for Roman versus Cody in a singles match

WWE are not planning on inserting Sami Zayn into the WrestleMania 39 main event, according to a new report.

Zayn was unsuccessful in his pursuit to dethrone Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber, in what could be the culmination of a nine-month storyline. The Tribal Chief will now defend the title against Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes at the Showcase of the Immortals.

Speaking about the situation on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer stated that WWE had no plans on adding Sami to the equation prior to Elimination Chamber.

"I know what the plan was as of, even a week ago, and it was Roman and Cody. It's not Sami being thrown in", Meltzer said.

"Could they do it? They could always change. I thought watching the Cody interview with Sami, 'Maybe you do make it a three-way'", he added.

Based on the current creative direction, it appears likely that Zayn will team with longtime friend/rival Kevin Owens to take on Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos at WrestleMania.
