Report: WWE Pitched WrestleMania 39 Match With Brock Lesnar To Steve Austin

What is going on with Steve Austin?

A new report on WWE's plans for Stone Cold Steve Austin has emerged.

A report from Fightful Select on Monday night noted that a match with Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns was pitched to Austin, with Stone Cold set to receive an "enormous" amount of money if he accepted. It was also claimed that another "big name" was pitched to Austin ahead of the match with Reigns being suggested.

In an update, Dave Meltzer has claimed on Wrestling Observer Radio that Austin facing Reigns has not been pitched. A match against Brock Lesnar was pitched for WrestleMania but the bout is not scheduled for the show.

"The match that was pitched was not Roman Reigns. It was Brock Lesnar. It's not on, something can happen now. It's been talked about probably for months," Meltzer said.

Meltzer also noted that when he had asked about a rumoured match between Gunther and Lesnar, he was told it was not part of WWE's plans. Lesnar returned to WWE TV on Raw is XXX, costing Bobby Lashley the United States Championship.

Stone Cold Steve Austin came out of retirement at WrestleMania 38, defeating Kevin Owens.

Austin and Lesnar have never faced each other inside a WWE ring. They were set to clash in the summer of 2002 on an episode of SmackDown with no build and Austin disagreed with the booking to such an extent that he walked out of WWE, not returning until early 2003.
