Report: WWE Planning To Hold Queen Of The Ring Tournament Later This Year

Coming in 2021

A Queen Of The Ring tournament could happen later this year.

According to Raj Giri of Wrestling Inc., WWE is planning to hold a Queen Of The Ring tournament in 2021. The brackets will reportedly be composed of main roster Superstars and matches will air on Peacock in the United States. There is no word on how the event will be broadcast internationally.

The exact date of the tournament is also currently unknown.

If WWE does follow through with their plans, it will be the company's first all-women's singles tournament since the 2018 edition of the Mae Young Classic. That tournament was won by Toni Storm and she defeated Io Shirai in the final at the all-women's WWE pay-per-view, Evolution.

WWE NXT did hold a Women's Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament earlier this year. Winners Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez were subsequently crowned the inaugural NXT Women's Tag Team Champions.

Female Superstars in the past have shown support for a Queen Of The Ring tournament, including multi-time women's champion Sasha Banks.

"A Queen Of The Ring tournament on a whole pay-per-view for itself would be pretty frickin cool," Banks said in December 2020. "But I've been waiting for Evolution 2 for a very long time. So maybe we can do that first and maybe we can start off a little bit of matches at Evolution 2 for the Queen Of The Ring tournament."
