Report: WWE’s Major Scrapped Plans For Kenny Omega Revealed

WWE were reportedly after Kenny Omega before AEW re-signing

The news that Kenny Omega and The Elite had put pen to paper on new long-term AEW deals put an end to speculation about their futures, with WWE reportedly having kept a keen eye on the four, especially Omega.

A new report from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has shed some light on how valued Omega was by WWE, with Meltzer suggesting that Omega was ‘number one’ on WWE’s most wanted list, despite WWE being in the midst of a soft ‘hiring freeze’ following the buy-out by Endeavor earlier this year.

Meltzer continued, noting how WWE would have likely pushed Omega in the company, with the ‘Best Bout Machine’ earmarked for a run as a top guy with the likes of Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar, and co. However, Meltzer noted that due to Omega’s age, injury record, and punishing style, that any push would have been short-term, as WWE view Seth Rollins as having more longevity in their role as ‘best wrestler on the roster’.
