Report: WWE Sign Mercedes Martinez

She is expected to report to the Performance Center later this month...

Mercedes Martinez is widely regarded as one of the best Independent wrestlers in the world. She was named the ninth-best female wrestler of 2019 by Pro Wrestling Illustrated, and she was named the top Independent wrestler of 2019 by both Ring The Belle and Squared Circle Sirens.

Now, Steve Bryant at SoCal Uncensored and Dave Meltzer at Wrestling Observer Online have both reported that WWE has signed Martinez. She is expected to report to the WWE Performance Center later this month.

The Latina Sensation has wrestled for almost 20 years and in that time she has become one of the best decorated female wrestlers on the indie scene, competing for World Xtreme Wrestling, Shine, and SHIMMER where she is a former two-time World champion.

The 39-year-old has also competed in both AEW and WWE in recent years, appearing in both Mae Young Classics. In 2017, she progressed to the semi-finals but was defeated by Shayna Baszler, while in 2018, she was eliminated in the second round by Meiko Satomura.

In AEW, Martinez was one of the last women eliminated from the Casino Battle Royal at All Out. She also teamed with Big Swole in a losing effort against Allie and Sadie Gibbs on the fifth episode of Dark.
