Report: WWE Surprised By Tama Tonga's In-Ring Work

Tama Tonga fuels surprise within WWE

Tama Tonga has been a regular on WWE TV since he made his debut on the April 12 edition of Friday Night SmackDown, having aligned with Solo Sikoa as he established a new iteration of The Bloodline in Roman Reigns' absence. Tonga Loa, Tama's brother, has since also joined the stable and a terrified Paul Heyman remains the group's wise man.

Tama Tonga has had a handful of matches across WWE TV since his debut and he has impressed fans so far, particularly his work in the Street Fight alongside Solo Sikoa against Randy Orton and Kevin Owens at May's Backlash pay-per-view. His in-ring work appears to have impressed within WWE too and Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE were surprised by Tama Tonga's ability inside the squared circle.

"Everyone's been surprised at how good he was. I mean, I think they knew he was good but he's really turned it on," Meltzer said.

Anyone who watched Tonga in New Japan won't be surprised by his ability inside the squared circle and he had widely praised matches against the likes of Shingo Takagi, Kazuchika Okada, David Finlay, and Jay White in recent years after Tonga transitioned to becoming a singles wrestler in NJPW.

Tama Tonga also seemingly keeps his plans close to the chest as he didn't even tell his own father Haku that he had signed with WWE.
