Report: WWE WrestleMania Backlash Main Event Was Switched
The Universal Title match wasn't originally slated to go on last
May 18, 2021
Cesaro challenged Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship to close out WrestleMania Backlash. The Swiss Cyborg did everything he could to try and defeat Reigns, but The Tribal Chief was ultimately too much to handle and Roman picked up the win with the Guillotine.
Cesaro's night only got worse from there and he was laid out by Jey Uso and then Seth Rollins to close out the pay-per-view.
This wasn't the original plan, though. Ringside News reported and Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer confirmed the Triple Threat WWE Title match was originally slated to be the main event. WWE made the switch on the day of the show, however, and the entire match order was changed more than once on Sunday.
The WWE Title match was the second-to-last bout on the card instead and Bobby Lashley walked away with the victory following a spear to Braun Strowman. The Monster Among Men may have also picked up an injury during the match as MVP noted he had "broken ribs" on Monday Night Raw.
