After signing with WWE, several All Elite Wrestling stars took to social media to wish Jade Cargill well in her new promotion, with nothing but positive words said about the inaugural TBS Champion.
The likes of Ricky Starks and Tony Khan publicly praised Cargill, whilst Kenny Omega took to Twitter/X to defend any colleagues who wanted to honour their friend, despite them joining the ‘competition’.
A new report from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has shed some more light on the backstage reaction from AEW about Cargill’s defection.
No-one in AEW said anything negative about Cargill to Meltzer and his team, but the only negative Meltzer heard was that Cargill’s exit has presented an image where a hot prospect can go to AEW, receive a massive push, then can just leave for WWE - an obviously unwanted image.
It should be noted that Cargill initially had a tryout with WWE before joining AEW, with Meltzer noting that there will be others who will look at the example set by Cody Rhodes and now Cargill, in that it is better to leave WWE, become a star in AEW, then make the jump back, rather than staying in WWE and stagnating.
